Stevie Kim: Tell us why you selected Elena Fucci as your favorite producer?
Xiao: Well, as I have been working here with Stevie at Vinitaly International for more than 3.5 years and had the chance to be exposed to many excellent Italian wine producers. Among them, Elena Fucci has a special place in my heart for the following reasons. To begin with, her brand image is her warm, smiling face; she represents herself, her winery and her hometown – Basilicata; and I was touched even deeper when I saw the photo of her grandpa working actively in the vineyard at the age of 95. My grandma is the closest person to me in the whole world. I want nothing but for her to be happy and healthy; Last but not least, as my secret dream of making my own wine in the future, I honestly couldn’t relate myself to the winemaking families of many generations as I simply don’t have anything to start with. Elena Fucci, instead, is the first generation female winemaker who put her name on her own winery. She basically showed me that my dream is not impossible. She is my role model and that’s why she is my favorite.

Stevie Kim: How did you discover the wines of Elena Fucci
Xiao: I tried Elena Fucci’s wine many times, and I would like to share my most recent tasting experience.
As a staff member working behind the scenes of many Vinitaly events, I witnessed the toughness of the Vinitaly International Academy (VIA) exam first hand, which made me want to take the challenge and achieve the goal of becoming a certified Italian Wine Ambassador. Last year, I had the chance to participate in the agile edition. And last month, I sat the tasting session and the exam. During the tasting, I re-discovered Elena Fucci’s TITOLO. During the 3 days of intensive tastings with all the benchmark wines from all over Italy, Elena Fucci’s wine remained in my memory. Both the intensity on the nose and the concentration on the palate are indeed impressive. Here are some of my tasting notes: “Deep purple in color, blackberry balanced with sweet spices such as cinnamon, floral notes such as violet and herbal notes such as bay leaf, and the tannins are high, ripe and fine-grained”. Aglianico del Vulture is a lesser-known and underappreciated treasure from the south of Italy, and I would like to shine a spotlight on Elena Fucci and her wine.

杜小雯：我多次品尝了Elena Fucci的葡萄酒，我想分享一下我最近的品尝经验。

Xiaowen DU (Xiao) is a passionate and dedicated wine professional who has spent more than 3.5 years working on marketing & promotion for Italian wine at Vinitaly International. In June 2021, she became a Vinitaly International Academy (V.I.A.) certified Italian Wine Ambassador (I.W.A.). Xiao’s wine journey started in 2011 when she became an undergraduate of Asia’s first College of Enology in China. After winning an Erasmus + scholarship right after graduation in 2015, she got the chance to study in Europe. Then she gained a Vinifera joint European M.Sc. in Viticulture and Enology from Montpellier SupAgro (France) and University of Udine (Italy) in 2017. The production of two vintages gave her strong connections with the winemaking process, one at Château Lagarosse in Bordeaux, France (2014); and the other at Flowers Vineyards and Winery at Sonoma Coast, California (2016). As the lifelong wine education continues, she is currently studying for the WSET Diploma.
